Club should sack Rats, John Terry Speaks
Thibaut Courtois says Chelsea have the quality in their squad to start climbing the Premier League table under interim manager Guus Hiddink.
Speaking to BBC Africa, he said: ‘I want to give back to the club which has given so much to me. “I’m delighted that we turned out today and put in a really good performance, and picked up the three points”.
“I am excited to return to Stamford Bridge”, Hiddink said in a statement on the Chelsea website.
Mourinho’s assistant Steve Holland took charge for the clash, which the Blues won thanks to goals from Branislav Ivanovic, Pedro and an Oscar penalty before Fabio Borini pulled one back.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich previously turned to Hiddink in February 2009 after sacking Luiz Felipe Scolari.
His first priority will be to breathe some life into Chelsea’s Premier League campaign after the champions lost nine of their first 16 matches this season – a calamitous run that ended with Mourinho’s dismissal on Friday (AEDT).
“If you can add up then it is possible but this league is very strong, which has been especially proven this year with all respect to the clubs at the top – Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Watford…it is fantastic and refreshing”.
“If it was the case where you could get rid of a lot of players I’m sure clubs would do that, but unfortunately it does fall on the manager’s head, there’s nothing we can do about that”, Terry said.
“They were able to play it from left-to-right and through the middle of us, and it’s no excuse that their manager had changed.
We always wanted to play well but sometimes things turn out differently and obviously the board took a decision [to sack José Mourinho]”.
“We can not ignore what has happened in the past but I told them to be professionals and look forward”.
“But we definitely intend to get him involved”. He was very demanding, his training sessions were intense, he’ll demand from everyone, and he’s a great man-manager as well.
