CM Anandiben casts vote in Ahmedabad
Over ninety five lakh individuals are eligible to train their vote within the first part that may witness polling in metropolis municipal company areas in six of the eight different bodies in Gujarat.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wields management over six of the eight municipal firms in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar.
While the BJP has had sweeping success in the state, winning the polls for over two decades, including strengthening its grip during the 12-year rule of Narendra Modi, his successor Anandiben Patel is facing a tough time with the piqued Patel community seemingly pitched against the BJP for the first time since the early 1990s.
Presently, BJP is in power in all the six civic bodies that are going for the polls.
For the first time, 50 per cent candidates are women.
The Congress too has bared its real agenda by handing out tickets to wives of prominent players from Hardik Patel’s stir even as Hardik Patel cools his heels in Jail.
The Gujarat State Election Commission (SEC) has made elaborate arrangements for the polls. Necessary security arrangements have also been put in place.
According to SEC, over 95.9 lakh voters have been registered for these six cities. Out of them, around 51.1 lakh are male, while 44.79 lakh are female voters.
Out of total 95,90,552 voters, Ahmedaad has 39,83,589, Rajkot has 8,85,700, Bhavnagar has 4,54,059, Jamnagar has 4,11,613, Vadodara has 12,27,934 and Surat has 26,27,657 voters.
