CNN to hold Democratic presidential debate in Flint, Michigan

Aides say she was invited by Flint Mayor Karen Weaver, and that Clinton plans a town hall meeting with Flint residents before returning to New Hampshire, which holds its primary on Tuesday.

After her campaign announced the visit earlier this week, some Republican critics alleged Clinton was using the crisis to bolster her image just days before the New Hampshire primary.

“I was outraged. And you must feel exactly the same”, Clinton said in a speech before the congregation at the House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church. “What happened in Flint is immoral”, she continued.

Rick Snyder’s administration helped the city switch back to Detroit water after state health officials confirmed independent studies showing unsafe levels of toxic lead metal in the city’s water and the bloodstreams of residents.

“This is a humanitarian crisis”, Sanders said. “I’m going to Flint, Michigan”.

Yet Democrats including campaign advisers to Clinton and Sanders likely would find it hard not to view the Flint saga as a political bonanza for their party – or, as The Washington Post described it – a “potent symbol of the perils of Republican governance” that is likely to be invoked many time throughout the 2016 campaign.

When the highly acidic Flint River water wasn’t properly treated, it resulted in the corrosion of old underwater pipes that began leaching lead into the water system.

“I’m here because for almost two years, mothers and fathers were voicing concerns about the water’s color, about the smell, about the rashes it gave to those who were bathing in it”, Clinton said. Flint has been at the center of the national spotlight as the city deals with a contaminated water crisis.

When Hillary Clinton was asked Sunday on Meet The Press who her pick was for Super Bowl 50, her response was direct.

Sanders, Clinton’s Democratic opponent, called on Snyder to resign over the issue. She said she favors the decision by Michigan’s two Democratic senators, Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters, to block progress of the Senate’s sweeping energy policy reform bill unless hundreds of millions of dollars are added for Flint relief.

Sanders was to campaign in New Hampshire on Sunday following his cameo appearance on “Saturday Night Live”. Some children’s blood has tested positive for lead, a potent neurotoxin linked to learning disabilities, lower IQ and behavioural problems.

“As time passes the cameras go away”, said Cavette.

Clinton shared stories about her conversations with locals and how it touch her heart to hear stories of despair.

A Democratic debate will take place in Flint and is set for March 6.
