Coach Cheika makes 3 changes to Wallabies starting lineup
England have already secured the series having beaten Australia in Brisbane and Melbourne but Cheika will hope his team can restore some pride in Sydney on Saturday.
Australia head coach Micheal Cheika is expecting England to ditch their “dull” tactics and “open up a bit more” in Saturday’s third Test in Sydney.
Cheika has been criticised for failing to engage with Jones, his former Randwick team-mate and a predecessor as Wallabies coach, in any mind games during the series.
“All the teams that have I’ve been involved with as a coach played lots of footy and when it doesn’t work, you get hit on the counter”, he added.
“They’ve had a bit of time together, they’ve been enjoying their time down here and they’d be coming even harder”.
Australia head coach Michael Cheika believes “dull” England may begin to play with more ambition now the series has been decided.
“There’s a part of me that wants to create competition in there”, he said.
Back after injury, Skelton noted the Wallabies had some lineout issues in the first two Tests.
“We haven’t adapted to how the opposition has been playing, so this week we’ve worked really hard on changing that and being able to adapt and be proactive rather than reactive”.
Australia reached the final of last autumn’s World Cup by playing attacking rugby and Cheika has no intention of deviating from the philosophy that served him well until England arrived Down Under three weeks ago. He’s a big guy, if he’s not at that level of fitness he can’t play worldwide footy.
“I think for us to score a few more tries or get a few more points, we’re going to be smart about where we attack and how we attack”, Toomua said. He’s an experienced player, he plays in that role as second playmaker for us, so it was a logical choice.
“We’ve had to play a slightly different shape and I don’t think we’ve missed the subtlety”. I understand the concept of a series but what we need to do is play to our full potential, play our style of game, be more accurate and play with a little extra edge.
Cheika named uncapped Western Force lock Adam Coleman and one-test back Taqele Naiyaravoro in a nine-man reserves bench, with one player to be cut later in the week.
