Coach: Conor McGregor Considering Lightweight & Featherweight Title Fights

Conor McGregor is declared the victor by knockout and crowned champion against Jose Aldo during UFC 194 at MGM Grand Garden Arena December 12.

Aldo’s loss comes as a true shock.

McGregor’s camp looked slightly more relaxed as the fight got underway, whereas Aldo’s backing staff looked a touch more anxious ahead of the bout.

“It didn’t affect me at all… we’ll have to come back”, he added.

“Unfortunately for me and a whole packed plane we are all going to be affected by a few drunk fools”, Coyne said on Friday. But I think it’s too soon to talk. I think it was very fast there.

It was a fight that was heavily anticipated, with an electric, yet anti-climatic finish.

However it appears Aldo will have to wait for a chance to right the ship against McGregor since the new champion has made it clear he wants to move up to 155-pounds and challenge for his second belt.

The Pacquiao-Mayweather fight – won by Mayweather via unanimous decision – registered 4.4 million pay-per-view buys, shattering the old record.

Standing victorious over the #1 pound-for-pound mixed martial arts fighter in the world, Conor McGregor seems to have an opponent in line after Jose Aldo.

The Irish fighter clearly knew his way with words and also in the ring.

“It didn’t affect me in any way, man; he may have spoken whatever”.

‘I understand why fighters have done that [before] because many fighters don’t fight as often as me, I stay busy. He was happy tonight, landed a good blow.

“Maybe I feel there’s a couple of contenders in the featherweight mix – let them compete against each other while I go up and take the lightweight belt, and then go back down and take out that contender”.

Aldo took time to thank his fans and those in Brazil for their support. It takes a while for us to digest, but it’s part (of the sport). Thank you guys, a big hug.

Speaking on The MMA Hour, John Kavanagh of SBG Ireland told host Ariel Helwani that Conor McGregor is dead-set on challenging for the lightweight title around March or April, before defending the newly earned featherweight belt against Edgar at UFC 200 in July.
