Coast Guard ends search off Tybee coast
Crews combed the area Tuesday night, but didn’t find anything connected to the search for the missing boys, officials said. His father, uncle and maternal grandfather have also been in airplanes helping the Coast Guard search. They are starting to pull back their resources for the night, but will continue to look into all tips they receive.
They issued an Urgent Marine Info Broadcast Tuesday night, urging anyone who might see something, to call authorities. Officials said they had searched almost 31,000 square miles as of Tuesday evening in the approximately 500-mile stretch from Jupiter, Florida, to Charleston, South Carolina.
“What makes the search hard is the amount of space that we have to cover”, Coast Guard Lt. Tommy Myers told ABC News today.
That search ended around 11 p.m.
Three Coast Guard cutters and one aircraft are actively searching the east coast of Georgia.
Crews from Coast Guard Station Chincoteague were in the immediate area when watchstanders at Sector Hampton Roads received a distress call from the boat at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Anne Butcher and Buddy Duncan share the same passion for fishing that drove Austin and Perry out to sea Friday. The man did not suffer any injuries and he declined medical treatment, Coast Guard officials said.
Their capsized boat was found Sunday morning off the coast of Ponce Inlet, more than 180 miles north of where they started their journey.
“That kid is just like his father”, he said.
“We are hopeful that they both have other life jackets on”, said Captain Mark Fedor, United State Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard continues searching for two teenage boaters missing off Florida.
