CoCo Vandeweghe destroys racket in Round 2 of US Open
There was a U.S. Open meltdown on Wednesday as tennis star CoCo Vandeweghe smashed her racket to shreds after a bad start to a match. For good measure, she put up her arms to the crowd, stood and wailed the racket a fifth time against the Louis Armstrong Stadium court.
Vandeweghe, the niece of National Basketball Association player Kiki Vandeweghe, blew up after dropping the first five games of her second round match against fellow American Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

“I definitely wasn’t doing it for the fun of it”, Vandeweghe said after the incident, according to New York Post.
“I think so far this year it’s probably been the best year that I have had”, she said. “I was like, ‘Go big or go home.’ You might as well destroy it”.
“I thought she was done,” Mattek-Sands recalled, “and she just kept going”.
Vandeweghe acknowledged that she was thinking ahead to her potential next opponent: Serena Williams.
“That’s definitely what I’m referring to”, she said.
Indeed, Yannick Noah never matched his 1983 French Open win; Williams won her first in 2002 and repeated, at long last, in 2013. The clip was already all over the Internet and TV and many other players told her about it in the locker room.
