Coco Vandeweghe Secures Her Biggest Ever Win To Reach Wimbledon Quarters!
No. 21 Madison Keys defeated Olga Govortsova, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
The Court Three crowd could now sense an upset as Vandeweghe then broke Safarova early on before poor serving handed back the break as she began to get tight as she tried to close the match.

However, the sixth seed was undone by a superb performance from Vandeweghe, who claimed her fourth win against a top-10 player, sealing a 7-6 (7-1) 7-6 (7-4) success on No. 3 court.
Vandeweghe is one of three Americans left in the Wimbledon quarterfinals. This will be the first time Vandeweghe has played in the quarterfinal of a grand slam. “I think it’s going to inspire everyone else to keep doing well and keep working hard”.
Coco Vandeweghe is coming off a straight sets win over Lucie Safarova, which lasted almost two hours.
Give Vandeweghe credit for a power game that produced nine aces, 25 winners and a pretty good standup routine.
“No”, Vandeweghe said. “I didn’t really feel that good”. “Because it’s not a team sport”.
While 20-year-old Keys is already being tipped as the player most likely to fill the void when the Williams sisters call time on their glittering careers, Vandeweghe, a couple of years older, has taken longer to realise her potential.
The New York native underlined her best-ever grand slam showing by refusing to buckle, but in the end was forced to bow to Sharapova’s superior major-tournament nous.
Yet Safarova could not break Vandeweghe again and, although the second tie-break was more closely contested, the world number 47 wrapped up a stunning victory as she followed up an ace that set up match point with an unreturnable serve.
“I definitely am the type of person that likes to have a laugh at themselves, especially when it looks like I have done something stupidly ridiculous”.
Serena Williams hugs her sister Venus after winning their singles match.
“It has been an wonderful run”, he said. “I think it is inspiring to us thinking, you know, we have all of this time, but at the same time seeing them do so well from young ages is also motivating to see if we can do the same”.
