Colbert Defies Comedy Central by Introducing Colbert Report Character’s ‘Identical Twin Cousin’

On Mondays night’s The Late Show, Stephen Colbert surprised a cartoon version of Hillary Clinton with questions from Republican citizens.
The most celebrated moment of last week was the return of “Stephen Colbert”.
“The polls show we’ve already decided on the outcome that we really want”, Colbert said, while the words “Canadian citizenship” flashed on the screen beside him.
Amidst boos from the audience, Colbert added, “I feel the same way but what can I do?”
Colbert joked, “The lawyers have spoken”.
“Which, is surprising, because I never thought of that guy as much of an intellectual”. The banned Colbert wears smart fitting suits, the cousin Colbert prefers a breezy American flag button down. Just to make sure he wasn’t stepping on any toes, the real Colbert also debuted a new segment-The Werd.
CBS is declining to comment on the legal issues Colbert referenced, and Comedy Central reps have not yet responded to The Hollywood Reporter’s request for comment. But he wasn’t allowed to do that, according to Viacom corporate lawyers.
Colbert likely thought he was done feuding with Viacom after leaving his Comedy Central show.
How did Colbert react to his old character’s death? Colbert asked before showing a clip of Bill Clinton saying during Tuesday’s Democratic National Convention, “Your only option is to create a cartoon”.
The episode recalled a similar one when David Letterman left NBC’s “Late Night” to go to CBS in 1993.
Letterman poked fun at that on his first CBS show.
Colbert fans will remember his satirically conservative alter ego from his days on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report.
