Colbert Reveals ‘Late Show’ Debut ‘Almost Didn’t Get On The Air’
NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” was back on top for the night with 4.06 million viewers.
Pay attention, Colbert: “Be careful what you tweet”, “Do a character – no one wants to see you” and “I think you should try and buy land, real estate, ’cause that’s what’s gonna last”. Given that Trump doesn’t have a history of responding well to criticism and Colbert dedicated a segment of his inaugural episode to ridiculous Trump storylines (and an Oreo binge), it’s fair to say that things could get uncomfortable.
Colbert’s first ever guests on his new show were Hollywood A-lister George Clooney and Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush, with current Democratic Vice President Joe Biden booked for later on this week.
While Stephen Colbert is undoubtedly the talk of the Internet as of late as a result of his Late Show premiering on September 8, it looks like all the hype and money spent on marketing from CBS was nearly for nothing.
The deeply personal interview was praised by critics and late night observers. Fans have been enjoying the new show and ratings have been solid, bringing in 6.6 million viewers but falling short of The Tonight Show’s pilot episode past year, as we previously reported.
The Late Show was up 203 percent in viewers compared to the same night previous year when the show was hosted by David Letterman.
Stewart’s involvement is not wholly unexpected since he also received an executive producer credit on “The Colbert Report”, the show that followed his own “Daily Show” every night on Comedy Central. The show airs at 11:35 p.m. EDT. “And if we don’t, it will still be a very interesting story to tell at the theater camp I’ll be running in Idaho”.
Luckily, the episode finally made it to air, as their “talented tech team” managed to get the show off the hard drives and on the air.
