Coldest game in Vikings history Sunday?
Barring an unforeseen shift in weather patterns, Sunday’s NFC wild card matchup between the Seahawks and Vikings at TCF Bank Stadium will be the coldest game on record in Seahawks annals.
Forecasts from the likes of accuweather.com and others are calling for a high temperature as low as zero Sunday. While we were looking at temperatures in the 12-degree range yesterday, the current forecast for Sunday shows a temperature at kickoff of anywhere from +1 to -1 degree.
Making the first postseason start of his career, Bridgewater exceeded the work from his rookie season with more yardage and fewer interceptions for an 88.7 passer rating but the Vikings were just the 16th highest scoring team in the National Football League with 22.8 points per game. Temperatures reached minus-13 degrees on December 31, 1967 during the Packers’ win over Dallas in the NFL Championship Game. The temperature that day was nine degrees below zero, but some hellacious winds in Cincinnati (nearly 30 miles an hour) pushed the wind chill down to minus-59 in a game was actually dubbed the Freezer Bowl.
Here are the 12 coldest games in Seahawks history. “You get teams that aren’t used to playing in the cold weather games and like I said, you get to use it to your advantage”.
That puts it near the two coldest games the Vikings every played in, both in 1972. The good news is that group went to the Super Bowl, losing to the Oakland Raiders, so perhaps there is some symmetry for this year’s Vikings team.
Now we’ll see how they perform in the uber cold.
