Coldplay, Bruno, Beyonce bring it at halftime
Beyonce Knowles wanted to put on a great Super Bowl halftime show in 2013 because she had to “hold it down for the ladies”.
On Saturday, February 6, the Carters sat courtside at the Golden State Warriors game at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif. Earlier in the day, Queen Bey dropped her brand new single “Formation”, which sparked a huge reaction from both the Beyhive and celebs alike.
Coldplay are the main headliners this evening, but you may not have realized that if you’ve not been following the news surrounding the Super Bowl this year. And when he joined Beyonce and Bruno Mars on Uptown Funk, it felt like the Super Bowl version of James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke”. The British rockers together with Beyonce recently released an Indian-themed video for Hymn for the Weekend, eliciting much negative feedback on social media from Indians who found the imagery cliched.
Bruno Mars and Beyonce left the stage briefly as Coldplay paid tribute to past Super Bowl performers, and all three reconvened for the big finish. Perhaps Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z will make an appearance.
Coldplay decorated the Super Bowl stage with marigolds and wrote the band’s name in Hindi on their amplifiers and drumset.
The fan consensus seems to be that Beyonce stole the show, while Coldplay and Bruno Mars was a nice back up to their insane dance and music numbers.
The band then performed its hits “Paradise” and “Adventure of a Lifetime” before a black-leather-clad Mars, who headlined the halftime show in 2014, bounced in, singing and dancing through his hit ‘Uptown Funk!’, with producer Mark Ronson on DJ decks on stage.
That’s what we call running the world.
Before the game, Lady Gaga performed a classically lovely version of the national anthem, accompanied by a piano and looking sharp in a red pantsuit with matching eye shadow.
