Coldplay lets Beyonce, Bruno Mars overshadow band
Martin and Coldplay opened up the show crouching on the Super Bowl field, singing Coldplay’s massive hit “Yellow”.
On one side, you have a woman whose just-dropped, much-discussed Formation proves why “fierce” is linked to her name, serving as a sizzling, sexy, super-charged break from a sport that assiduously markets its own fierceness.
“Age and weight made this hard on Beyonce”.
The British group joins a prestigious list of past halftime show performers that includes big-name stars like Michael Jackson, Prince, Janet Jackson (who can forget her titillating performance?), Bruno Mars, Beyonce and Katy Perry.
In a few hours, a new champion will be crowned in Super Bowl 50.
For the golden anniversary edition of the show, Beyonce was chosen to represent the past (she was the headliner in New Orleans when the lights failed in 2013) and the youth choir was chosen to symbolize the future.
Tickets will go on sale next week, starting with an Amex pre-sale. The “Empire” actress mistakenly tweeted that she was really enjoying this Maroon 5 performance.
The North American tour kicks off on April 27 in Miami, Florida.

Then it was over to Beyonce at the other end of the field, for a frenzied dance routine and all-too-brief taste of Formation. Then it was time for Bruno Mars, who took over the show with “Uptown Funk”.
The Super Bowl half-time performances are ones that are often upbeat and powerful, however Coldplay was a little lacking in that department, possibly due to their song choices.
