Coldplay Performs ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’ On ‘Ellen’ – Watch Here!
The WSJ says, due to the band’s objection to Spotify’s free tier, the full length A Head Full Of Dreams LP “will not be immediately available on Spotify”.
However, this is not a decision to consciously uncouple from Spotify entirely, but rather a choice based on the company’s refusal to restrict the album to its paying customers only.
Whipping boys for those people who consider them the epitome of ill-considered, vapid rock music, Coldplay may not tick many boxes for fans of Grimes or Chvrches.
While reports are surfacing that Coldplay will headline the Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show, alongside that news is the news that the band will reportedly not be releasing its new album, “A Head Full of Dreams,” on Spotify, at least not immediately.
However, the record will not be available on Spotify – and you can probably guess why. Spotify requires all music on its platform to be available to its free users, which number nearly 80 million. Their next album, Mylo Zyloto, was also kept from Spotify for about three months, but to make sure that it received attention, they released an audio only video for “Paradise”, which they’ve now done again with “Adventure of a Lifetime”.
In November 2014, Adele’s manager Jonathan Dickins suggested that restricting some albums to premium subscribers only might solve some of Spotify’s high-profile disputes with artists.
Taylor Swift has also been particularly vocal in criticizing streaming services.
Adele’s latest album 25 is not now available on any streaming service – free or premium.
