Coldplay to perform at Super Bowl 50
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin also shares his favorite Super Bowl memories. It’s the greatest moment of our band’s life. “We are going to give it everything we have”.
The Super Bowl will be a notable tour stop on the band’s forthcoming world tour.
Admitting he was full of nerves over the event, he said: “Today, it’s about how do we stage our special guest”.
“Now that you mention it, now I’m really, really nervous”, Chris Martin admits in a minute-long video released Thursday following the announcement. “With the band finishing it would be the ultimate way for the group to say farewell to their fans”. Previous halftime headliners include Bruno Mars, Prince, Beyonce, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, U2 and the Rolling Stones.
The Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show is the most-watched musical event of the year.
Fans can expect to the 2016 show to honor halftime performers from the past and present, as well as a look into the next 50 years. Very low energy for SB50. Coldplay’s new album, A Head Full Of Dreams, is due out Friday. It’s probably always easier when you are a pop star, given that you can play around with the spectacle a little bit more. For instance at a show on Thursday, the band brought out its … manager?
While Coldplay are well-known and have earned many Grammys, it would have been disappointing to have them as the sole artist at Super Bowl 50. Her show’s numbers topped the record of 115.3 million that Bruno Mars and Red Hot Chili Peppers got in 2014. For the event’s first decade, marching bands – from such universities as Grambling State and Florida A&M – ruled, with an occasional name celebrity (like Carol Channing and Ella Fitzgerald) joining in.
