Coldplay to play Super Bowl halftime
Coldplay’s hits include “Speed of Sound”, “Viva La Vida”, “Yellow”, “Trouble”, “Fix You” and “Paradise”.
Last year’s Super Bowl halftime show, which featured Katy Perry and her scene-stealing sidekick Left Shark, is going to be tough to beat. (“Nothin’ On You”) and Geneva native Travie McCoy (“Billionaire”). The Destiny’s Child singer headlined 2013’s concert and appears on Coldplay’s new album, singing on “A Head Full of Dreams” track “Hymn for the Weekend”.
In the NFL’s announcement, the league said that “other special acts” will be involved, so this tradition will most likely be followed – perhaps the NFL will bring in newer performers like Taylor Swift or Pharrell Williams alongside Coldplay to attempt to appeal to multiple demographics, something that’s crucial during the massive Super Bowl event.
Bruno Mars, Beyonce, Madonna, The Black Eyed Peas, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Prince, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Janet Jackson have all headlined past Super Bowls.
There is no word as to whether Left Shark will make a return, but here’s to hoping.
As many as 118 million viewers are expected to watch the halftime show, which will take place in the middle of the 50th Super Bowl football game on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. In this series fans will be able to see the creative processes of the seven-time Grammy Award-winning band Coldplay as they design their stage and show and prepare for America’s favorite sports event.
