Coldplay will be part of Super Bowl 50 halftime show
NFL announced the breaking news of Coldplay’s performance on Thursday night during the football game between the “Detroit Lions” and “Green Bay Packers”.
Bruno Mars, Beyonce, Madonna, The Black Eyed Peas, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Prince, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Janet Jackson have all headlined past Super Bowls.
Starting next month, a mini-series leading up the February 7 Super Bowl performance kicks off on January 11, 2016.
Darren Heitner, from South Florida, said: “Whether you like Coldplay or not, band doesn’t make you think “exciting Super Bowl Half Time show”. In this series fans will be able to see the creative processes of the seven-time Grammy Award-winning band Coldplay as they design their stage and show and prepare for America’s favorite sports event. The British band will be one of multiple prominent musical acts who will share the stage in Santa Clara, California. “Yesterday, what I was nervous about was all about the set list”. “We’re going to give it everything we have”, Martin said.
Coldplay was one of the rumored performers for Super Bowl 2015, that eventually Katy Perry performed. (No, “Yellow” does not refer to the color of referees’ flags or the first-down line you see on TV.) On Twitter, some made snide jokes about the news, citing Coldplay’s reputation for pretty songs with few rough edges.
The band’s artistic director Phil Harvey also admitted his nerves, and has teased fans with the promise of some special guests.
While Coldplay insists that they write all of their own music-though why anyone would want to take credit for all of Mylo Xyloto is beyond me-their Super Bowl appointment is still egregiously misinformed.
Its music also is palatable to the Super Bowl’s broad viewing base.
Katy Perry’s most recent halftime performance, in which she was joined by Missy Elliot and Lenny Kravitz, earned over 120 million viewers, beating Bruno Mars’ Super Bowl performance with Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2014 which garnered over 115 million viewers.
