Colin Farrell cast in ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’

Colin Farrell is the newest addition to the cast of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a spinoff from the popular Harry Potter series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Farrell will play an American wizard named Graves who encounters fictional textbook writer Newt Scamander in 1920s New York.

That all sounds a bit convoluted but it boils down to this – a period film with an entirely new cast about a wizard who researches fantastical creatures.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is one of the fictional books assigned to Harry and his friends while at school in Hogwarts Witchcraft and Wizardry.

He will star alongside Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne and Katherine Waterson, with Eddie playing the lead role of Newt Scamander and the actress playing the female lead, Tina. Steve Kloves, who wrote seven out of the eight Harry Potter movies, and Lionel Wigram are also producing. Fantastic Beasts is set to drop in November 2016.

Farrell is now starring on HBO’s second season of True Detective.
