College basketball Top 25 AP Poll: ACC has six teams in rankings
Kentucky, Maryland and Michigan State held the top three spots in the Associated Press’ men’s college basketball poll Monday, but there were plenty of changes at the bottom of the Top 25 – including a farewell to Cal.
The other newcomers this week are: No. 20 West Virginia, No. 23 Providence, No. 24 Louisville and No. 25 Baylor. The No. 4 Kansas Jayhawks are followed by No. 5 Iowa State Cyclones, and No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners.
The Orange, off to a 6-0 start and victor of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament that ended last Friday in the Bahamas, entered the Top 25 for the first time this season at No. 14. Wichita State, Indiana, UConn, and LSU exit the rankings after suffering multiple losses this past week. The Atlantic Coast Conference put six teams in the poll and both leagues are top heavy. The Bulldogs are third among those receiving votes in the AP poll. California, which lost to San Diego State and Richmond in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic, was 14th, while Notre Dame, which lost to Monmouth and Alabama in the AdvoCare Invitational, was 17th.
The Terps will face their biggest test of the season so far when they travel to North Carolina to take on the No. 9-ranked Tar Heels (5-1) at 9:30 p.m. December 1.
The Big Ten and Big East both have three teams ranked. They had been ranked 13th by AP and 14th by the coaches. The team failed to get back into the top 25.
