College Football Has One Undefeated Team Left & Five Waiting for Rankings to
No. 1 Clemson will face No. 4 Oklahoma on December 31 at either 4 or 8 p.m. ET in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl, and No. 2 Alabama plays No. 3 Michigan State in the Capital One Orange Bowl in the other time slot. There are 4 places out there within the College Football Playoff, & unsurprisingly exclusively 4 teams received consideration from the Playoff Projection panel following Sat.’s conference championship games. What would that version of the College Football Playoff look like?
The winners of the two semifinals will meet on January 11 in the College Football Playoff National Championship, held at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. That includes a 29-15 victory over Florida in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday, which ultimately allowed the Crimson Tide to be handed the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. The Tigers are in with a win over North Carolina in the ACC Championship Game.
ACC champion Clemson, SEC’s Alabama, Big Ten’s Michigan State and Big 12’s Oklahoma are the best teams in the country and will play for the national championship.
The Big Ten championship game made things simple: Undefeated Iowa going up against Michigan State.
Now comes the slightly tricky part, although we do predict it’s going to be Oklahoma and Michigan State that go in at #3 and #4 (doesn’t really matter the order) while Stanford are left out.
“Not this week. Clearly Clemson is Number One. Little differences in resumes, how they won the games”. “All four of these teams were very close”.
Meanwhile, the remaining games that compose the New Year’s Six access bowl games – Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, Peach – will select the highest ranked remaining teams that fill their criteria.
The selection committee is composed of 12 members, including Jeff Long, Barry Alvarez, Mike Gould, Kirby Hocutt, Tom Jernstedt, Bobby Johnson, Tom Osborne, Dan Radakovich, Condoleeza Rice, Mike Tranghese, Steve Wieberg and Tyrone Willingham.
