College Football Playoff rankings 2015 Week 13 Top 25 poll
Not considered one of the best games of the week, but entertaining to watch, was the Alabama vs. Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
That leaves it up to the ACC Championship Game to take a great final four and shake it until it is upside down.
To-do list: “59-0” saved Ohio State past year, as its impressive win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game vaulted them into the final four.
Let’s say UNC pulls the upset and Stanford beats USC… now the argument settles on 12-1 ACC Champion UNC, 11-2 PAC 12 Champion Stanford, and an 11-1 Ohio State.
As for the football championship, we can be certain that, barring dissolution, the conference will stick with an event that generates income and extends suspense and interest. However, on championship weekend Ohio State whipped Wisconsin 59-0. That could be a problem if it is Michigan State that loses because the Buckeyes lost to MSU head-to-head. Junior cornerback Desmond King was named the Big Ten’s top defensive back and his eight interceptions – tied for the most in the nation – have matched the school record shared by Louis King (1981) and school legend Nile Kinnick (1939) but he found himself benched for the first quarter of the regular-season finale against Nebraska after missing a team meeting. That speaks to consistency and Iowa has had only seven losing seasons since 1971.
The Trojans have played four games against ranked teams, and they’re 1-3 in those four games.
No. 7 Stanford (10-2) will play No. 20 USC (8-4) at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, at 7:45 p.m. EST, aired on ESPN. They seem like the more complete team as North Carolina has played a relatively easy schedule.
Standing in their way is North Carolina, which joins Iowa among the country’s biggest surprises this season.
And another conference championship finalist, SEC East victor Florida, is the lowest-ranked two-loss Power Five team at No. 18.
No, the dynasty isn’t dead yet.
Remember when Texas pimp slapped Oklahoma in Dallas and Ole Miss went to Alabama and did the same thing?
Stanford needs to take care of Southern Cal in the Pac 12 Champioship and have either Clemson or Alabama lose to find its way into the playoff.
The Gators have enjoyed a resurgence in Jim McElwain’s first season, but the offense has been punchless since QB Will Grier was suspended. The victor advances. The loser likely goes to the Rose Bowl. But the much more likely outcome is Alabama finds itself playing for its fourth national title in the last seven years.
As we near the end of the the 2015 college football season, we’ve also neared the end of the second season of the “College Football Playoff” era.
There are other teams in the top 10: Ohio State, Notre Dame and Florida State. The committee would have to slice and dice the resumes of the Tar Heels, trying to make a huge jump after winning a conference, the Cardinal, a two-loss conference champion with a top-10 win against Notre Dame, and the defending national champion Buckeyes. But beyond that, it’s unclear how the field would shake out, especially if Clemson loses.
Florida State: The Seminoles are probably locked into the Peach Bowl unless North Carolina upsets Clemson and the ACC doesn’t get a team in the playoff.
The guess here is Stanford makes the playoff in this scenario.
