College Students Shock Rahul Gandhi
Rahul asked the students whether “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” (‘Clean India Mission”) was working, to which most replied in a resounding “yes’. “We want a GST that is beneficial for country”. He told a packed audience on Thursday, in response to a question from a student, “It is not suit-boot-kisarkar, it is 5 or 6 suits-boots-ki-sarkar”.
Earlier, in his address, the Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress wished for talks with the government on issues like land and goods and services tax bills but it was not engaging in a dialogue. A visibly uncomfortable Gandhi said: “You see it working?”
However, when Rahul Gandhi broached the subject of Swachh Bharat and said that the scheme was not working at all, the gathered audience shouted him down and said that it was working very well and that there was nothing wrong with the scheme per se.
“With the Modi government, I don’t see a clear direction, I hear a lot of talk”.
Echoing similar sentiments, another BJP leader Nalin Kohli said that the youth in the programme today showed Rahul Gandhi the reality and pointed out how diverse from reality his perception was and how he was not speaking on facts. “This is a serious issue”, Digvijaya Singh said.
Across section of Mount Carmel College students felt the questions asked were prepared well in advance and they were not allowed to ask what they wanted.
“This is the way, the leader of the country should interact with the young and the countrymen everywhere – sometimes disagreeing with them, sometimes agreeing with them and answering their basic inquisitiveness on how India should look in 5 years, 10 years and 20 years. But, it went on for about two minutes after which actually gave people time to take in the question and then respond, which is when he got a 50:50 response”.
“Forty people have been murdered in Madhya Pradesh in Vyapam scam, Lalit Modi being helped…absolutely, corruption has to be removed”, he said.
· My vision of India is what people of India want. “How can one person have all the answers?” he said.
“… (Rahul ji) believes in democratic functioning of the country, the right to agree or disagree”, Surjewala said. One man alone can not transform the country.
