Colombia has more than 2000 Zika cases in pregnant women
According to health experts, mosquitoes and their breeding sites pose a significant risk factor for the spread of Zika virus infection.
Jamaica’s Ministry of Health has announced the country’s first case of the Zika virus.
The center advised that people should remain alert.
The enemy of mankind is undoubtedly the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Zika virus infection may also go unrecognised or be misdiagnosed as dengue, chikungunya or other viral infections causing fever and rash, according to the Public Health Agency.
“The most important thing that pregnant women can do is prevent mosquito bits when they’re in these countries”, said Hall about the best way pregnant women can protect themselves from getting sick.
The Zika virus is transmitted by bites by the Aedes species of mosquito and has been linked to microcephaly in thousands of babies in Brazil.
But while the situation is calm in the United States, South America is engaged in a fight against the growing Zika pandemic.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has called for calm over the panic of the Zika virus in Pakistan and said that there is no such threat to the country at the moment. The WHO would convene an emergency meeting Monday to help determine its response, she said.
Since Zika, which originated in Africa, was detected in Latin America past year, there has been a surge in babies born with microcephaly, or abnormally small heads.
“We were anxious, we were traveling to see our relatives and my wife is also pregnant”, said Alanis Cunah.
A health official said Saturday Colombia has now recorded 41 cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome that appear to be linked to Zika.
He said the government decided to make the announcement because 5,397 cases of the Zika virus had been detected in El Salvador in 2015 and the first few days of this year. Women have already been advised to avoid travelling to infected countries if they might be pregnant or are trying for a child.
The Zika virus has made its way to Georgia and now the Coastal Health District is issuing a warning to keep everyone safe.
