Colon, Scherzer, Saunders, Belt added to All-Star rosters
“We think he’s certainly stabilized the rotation”, Mets manager Terry Collins said of Colon.
Bartolo Colon was added to the All-Star team on Friday, and it is a well-deserved honor for someone who is as key to the Mets’ successes as anybody.
Bumgarner is 9-4 this season with a 2.09 ERA. He also revealed that he intends to pitch only one more season.
Colon has started 17 games this season, posting a 7-4 record with 65 strikeouts and a 3.28 ERA.
This year will be Colon’s first as a member of the National League. And he hit a home run that you may have heard about. The former Cy Young victor will be appearing in his fourth Midsummer Classic.
Remember that time pitcher Bartolo Colon broke the internet by hitting his first home run at Petco Park in San Diego? He’s struck out just 5.93 batters per nine, but he’s maintained his incredibly low walk rate with 1.55 per nine this year. He becomes the eighth player 43 or older to be named to an All-Star squad.
The 43-year-old Colon was roughed up on Thursday against the Washington Nationals, but has had a pretty fantastic year overall.
He joins OF Yoenis Cespedes (who is starting in left field), and pitchers Noah Syndergaard and Jeurys Familia, who were chosen on the players ballot as reserves.
