Colorado Board Of Education Adopts New Beverage Rules
The Burlington teachers’ union is weighing options after more than a year of contract negotiations with the Burlington School Board.
The Minneapolis school board’s finance committee is recommending to the full board that the district increase its levy by 3.5 percent in 2017, a $7 million increase.
The bonds for the elementary and high school projects will be paid early, and district business manager Kelly Christopherson noted that although the district can not pay off the facilities upgrade bonds for several years, getting the money now, while interest rates are very low, will pay off in the long run.
This year’s proposed budget appears lower than last year’s overall approved budget of $104,737,957 million, because the figure doesn’t include the potential revenue limit energy exemption which the board could pursue, the final aid calculation or all federal/state grant awards.
“We didn’t come close to getting everything we wanted, but I’m happy because it’s a lot better than what we had”, he said.
The board was told by JNA Consulting Group, LLC the installment purchase agreement made the most sense compared to bonding.
With the new tax rate, property owners who paid $5.48 per $1,000 of property value will pay $5.245 per $1,000 of property value.
About one-third of the county’s revenues come from property taxes, and almost three-fourths of the general fund.
“We are not 100 percent sure on what it all looks like at this point”, Rosa said. “We’ve build that budget, and we will live that budget”.
Additional video cameras are recommended at Central School, which has been evacuated and is partially boarded up, and at Rossiter School, since both sites are having vandalism problems.
Board members pointed out that individual school districts would still be able to implement their own rules.
“It’s not money in the bank, but it’s money we have in excess”, he said.
The State Board of Education approved a new school accountability system last week, and local school districts are pleased with its new direction.
Kim Short, of Port Orange, said she has had turnover and retention top of mind with all the “newness” among staff in the district.
ENROLLMENTS: The district’s current student enrollment stands at 63,043 – about 1,100 fewer students than it projected. The program ensures that all students can begin the school year with new supplies. Numbers will be measured again in October.
With the new system, schools that do not meet performance standards would be eligible for technical assistance and intervention, according to the state Department of Education.
