Colorado electors try to overturn voting requirement
The Dallas paramedic previously indicated he would support Trump.
A member of the electoral college from Texas is maintaining that he will not cast his vote for President-elect Donald Trump when the college completes the electoral process later this month.
“The very notion of two Colorado electors ignoring Colorado’s popular vote in an effort to sell their vote to electors in other states is odious to everything we hold dear about the right to vote”, Williams said. People are unhappy. They’re angry. After the election however, Trump said Kasich called and congratulated him. And to be clear, Mr. Suprun hedges his vote, saying it should be someone honorable and qualified-whereupon he names Kasich- but others like Jeb!
His problem is with its victor. There are states that allow voters to change their votes, and one voter in Texas is doing just that. Electors across all states will cast their votes for the next POTUS Monday, December 19. He’ll probably stiff the Associated Press again at its next media day by not showing up as he did past year. He campaigned against him for the Republican presidential nomination, but won only his home state of Ohio.
What Are Presidential Electors and Why Do They Matter?
Kasich himself, who was not a supporter of the president-elect, advises OH electors to vote for Trump.
This is the latest effort of electors attempting to use their Electoral College votes to prevent Donald Trump from reaching the White House.
The U.S. Constitution does not provide for the popular election of the president, so the November vote was indirect.
The two are casting themselves as “moral electors” who want to “vote their conscience and do their constitutional duty as intended by the framers”, said attorney Jason Wesoky.
Suprun is a former firefighter and current paramedic who responded to the September 11th attacks, and his opinion is that George W. Bush, while imperfect, led and united the nation after that crisis.
The Hamilton Group is arguing that the circumstances of this election consitute an “emergency” and dictate the use of a failsafe, in this case, the going against the public vote and selecting a different president. Because states like Iowa actually get a say in the election, I know I was able to make a difference and talk to people who were ready for a new direction, away from the wrong direction the Obama administration had started the country.
