Colorado’s average gas price drops below $2 per gallon
The Dearborn-based auto club says the average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline was about $1.94 per gallon on Sunday.
Motorists in Tucson and across much of Arizona can easily find gas below $2 per gallon, and on average they’ll be paying about 70 cents per gallon less for gas this holiday weekend compared with a year ago, figures from AAA show. $1.99 per gallon is almost 80 cents cheaper than 2014 and $1.29 cheaper than 2013.
National prices “appear ripe to break under the $2 per gallon threshold in the next day or two, something not witnessed since March 2009”, said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst, in the statement.
Crude oil, which accounts for roughly two-thirds of the price of gasoline, has remained stubbornly low.
Last Monday, gas was selling for $2.18 a gallon.
In Lima, the lowest price was $1.68 at the Murphy US on Harding Highway.
Gas stations are posting prices as low as $1.78 per gallon in places like Kenosha and Pleasant Prairie.
Seasonal declines in fuel demand, low oil prices and the end of refinery maintenance season are contributing to the drops in prices at the pump.
