Colts expect Matt Hasselbeck to start vs. Jaguars
But Roethlisberger hit Antonio Bryant and Marcus Wheaton with touchdown passes before the half to build a 21-10 Pittrsburgh lead, and then hit for two more scores in the second half as the Steelers scored the game’s last 39 points.
Steelers receiver Antonio Brown had one of the most creative touchdown celebrations on Sunday night when after returning a punt 71 yards to pay dirt he leaped crotch-first into the goal post.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Hasselbeck (8) is helped by trainers after being shaken up on a play during the second half of an NFL football game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, in Pittsburgh. He said he received X-rays after the game and was in a little bit of pain.
Coach Chuck Pagano said Hasselbeck will be evaluated further on Monday, adding, “He should be OK”. “That kind of gave me a lot of momentum for sure, a lot of confidence that I could have a really good game”.
“We’re capable of doing that”, coach Mike Tomlin said.
The Colts have reached the final quarter of the 2015 season, in a year with ups and downs unlike anything Chuck Pagano has seen in his more than 30 years in football.
“Just bad”, said Hasselbeck, who believe he’ll be fine.
Hasselbeck finished 16 for 26 for 169 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions before exiting.
Notes: Pagano also said inside linebacker Nate Irving suffered a fractured wrist Sunday and safety Colt Anderson injured his ankle Sunday.
Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton will be missing one of his top targets as tight end Tyler Eifert, the NFL’s touchdown leader, will miss their game against the Browns with a neck injury. “Are we going to fold it up or are we going to dig down deep and go out there and do what we need to do to get into the playoffs?” There was absolutely no pass rush.
Imagine how the Colts felt after letting Roethlisberger expertly pick them apart once again. Hasselbeck has been under center for four of the team’s six wins this season. However, in the early stages of the game, the Colts were in it. This is because of two early takeaways. “I’m disappointed in how I played”.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Hasselbeck (8) is tackled by Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward (97) during the second quarter at Heinz Field. DeAngelo Williams ran for 134 yards and added five catches for 31 yards. The Colts had the ball just inside Pittsburgh territory, and probably on fringe Adam Vinatieri field goal range (I think it would have been a 57-58 yard kick).
A year ago, the defense had just put up ridiculous numbers as the Colts shut out Cincinnati 27-0 for their fifth straight win but the Super Bowl Express got sidetracked by Ben Roethlisberger, who passed for a million yards and a zillion touchdowns in a 51-34 beatdown. Four Pittsburgh drives ended with Chris Boswell field goal attempts, including a 42-yarder in the fourth quarter that came after Bryant let a potential score smack off his hands as he tried to make a leaping grab at the goal line.
