Colts give coach Chuck Pagano four-year contract extension
Chuck Pagano is awaiting word of his fate. But the delay renewed hope among Pagano’s biggest supporters that he could come back. He told them he didn’t know his future. “Waking up this morning, I’m always hopeful for continuity”.
Winning is supposed to be the name of the game in the National Football League, and only one coach has led the team he now coaches to a higher percentage of wins than Pagano. He hasn’t had a losing season and has won three playoff games.
And the Titans may have changes coming as well, including interim coach Mike Mularkey, who was 2-7 after replacing Ken Whisenhunt, who was sacked November 3 after a 1-6 start.
Sure, the Colts have been occasionally overmatched, outwitted, and out-fought.
That was supposed to cost Coach Chuck Pagano his job.
First of all, this makes plenty of sense because of the ties Pagano has to current coaches and players at MI.
9 – Marketing. Pagano is a cancer survivor whose struggle inspired millions in central Indiana. “This year was tough obviously; 8-8 falling short of the playoffs is hard but the injuries we’ve had- I’m proud of the organization”, Irsay said.
Nonetheless, the Colts continue to believe in Grigson and his ability to construct a postseason roster.
For now we can only dream of Andrew Luck returning to form next season, Matt Hasselbeck retiring with dignity, Chuck Pagano chopping wood and giving it a whale of an effort while grinding things whilst spewing more “Paganoisms”.
“We have the right stuff here to win a world championship”, Irsay said, referencing the coach and general manager. If those reports are true, Pagano being as well-respected as he is among players is a miracle of great leadership. Grigson pointed to the 8-8 season and the difficulties and said rough times can be necessary to build something special. Are there a lot of great coaches out there who want to hitch their wagons to that? “It wasn’t fan pressure, player pressure, anything along those lines”. “From Andrew Luck to myself to Coach Pagano, that adversity is what’s going to springboard us to greatness”, Grigson said. The Colts went 11-5 for three straight seasons before 2015’s pause in success. “I don’t see a need for change”.
Hours later, Pagano agreed to an extension to stay on the Colts sidelines.
Thank you all for a great season (even when the games were less than great).
Pagano was all smiles as the announcement was made.
Indianapolis’ decision to keep Pagano will be well-liked in a locker room that was already lobbying to keep Pagano.
Kubiak said he’ll evaluate the health and play of his quarterbacks over the next few days before making up his mind. Given the lack of health on the Colts roster, going 8-8 is a hell of an accomplishment. That means the pair will be working together through the 2019 season.
1 – Pagano didn’t buy the groceries.
So what you have is the owner of the franchise saying that the guy he just extended – who was at risk of being fired – is doing a better job than a Hall of Famer who completely turned the franchise around. A massive influx of veteran free agents sent the message that it was Super Bowl or bust. That’s not a coincidence.
