Colts GM Ryan Grigson relieved of duties
On Saturday, Colts owner Jim Irsay insisted that there were no issues between coach Chuck Pagano and now-former G.M. Ryan Grigson.
Grigson, the Philadelphia Eagles’ director of player personnel before being hired by Irsay, was handed a golden ticket in his first year, when he was able to choose Andrew Luck No. 1 overall.
Irsay has remained quiet since the season ended with a 24-20 victory against Jacksonville on January 1.
“I made it slowly, cautiously, prudently, because it’s a big decision”, Irsay said, via the Colts’ team website. He said the time was needed to do a throrough examination of the football operation and determine the areas that needed to be fixed. If Pagano is, in fact, safe in Indianapolis, then hiring his own assistant coaches would typically become a pivotal part of the offseason.
After missing the playoffs for the second straight season, finishing with an 8-8 record, there were many questions surrounding the Colts.
Grigson entered 2016 with a focus on the offensive line.
Irsay did say that he would welcome the chance to talk to Manning, but reiterated that the former quarterback is not now a candidate.
Stressing the need for continuity, Irsay retained his GM and head coach following the postseason-less 2015 campaign.
It all started with a rumor; one that reached the Indianapolis Colts’ front office led by general manager Ryan Grigson: The New England Patriots might illegally tamper with the air pressure inside footballs. “There’s been a lot of relationships throughout the years where the general manager and head coach aren’t the best of friends but professionally they moved forward and excel”.
“There was never any serious negotiations or anything like that for (Manning) coming in to be general manager”, Irsay said. Him and I sat and.
In the end, the differences were irreconcilable, immune even to the efforts of psychologists called in by the Indianapolis Colts.
If the Colts wanted to promote from within, they could consider Jimmy Raye III who interviewed with the 49ers during the first round of GM interviews.
