Colts owner picks up Ringo Starr’s drum set at auction
A drum kit Ringo Starr used to record some of the Beatles’ early hits has sold for $2.2 million at auction to the owner of the Indianapolis Colts, an American football team. Starr’s Ludwig drum kit with “The Beatles” logo emblazoned on the bass drum which Starr played in hundred of shows will be up for bid. Two guitars that were owned and played by John Lennon and George Harrison will be up for auction. Lennon’s 1964 Rickenbacker electric is expected to fetch $600,000 to $800,000, and Harrison’s 1962 Gretsch “Chet Atkins” Tennessean model is estimated to sell for $100,000 to $200,000. As well as, outfits worn by Starr when he performed with the Beatles.
“We used to play the vinyl in those days”, Starr told Rolling Stone of the incredibly rare album copy. The event will be held at Julien’s Auctions house in Beverly Hills and will take place from December 3-5. It was founded by Starr and his wife back in 2004.
Starr is bidding farewell to items such as instruments, career memorabilia as well as personal items.
