Colts sign QB Freeman, Lindley
It would mean that Grigson may stay longer than Chuck Pagano but that doesn’t mean that his job status is secure.
Other situations thrust on Pagano, according to the source, included the hiring of offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton and using kick returner Josh Cribbs in the playoffs last season even though he had developed serious fumble issues.
Pagano, 55, led Indianapolis to matching 11-5 records (though he was absent for part of 2012) in each of his first three seasons. “I think it’s going to be one of those things when the season is over, sit down and think about it and evaluate it. It has been a little bit of a different season”.
Asked why needing nine games to go their way in order to make the postseason would be considered a great spot, Pagano retorted, “I’m anxious about one. I don’t want to say we’re there all the way”.
While Pagano’s fate may be set, it’s uncertain whether Grigson survives what promises to be an offseason of change.
The Indianapolis Colts will join the list of teams searching for a head coach, according to a report.
The sports-movie vibe is enhanced by the very real possibility the Colts will be forced to use their fourth-choice quarterback, a guy plucked of the unemployed passer line. You can blame general manager Ryan Grigson for that.
Whether Pagano remains the head coach of the Colts or not is just one of the many questions that is sure surround the Colts this off season. If Hasselbeck doesn’t play, Colts will probably go with former Bucs starter Josh Freeman or former Cardinal Ryan Lindley, who joined team Tuesday… But if true, and if Pagano wants to end his tenure in Indianapolis with a win, the Colts (7-8) have to figure out who will start at quarterback against the Titans (3-12).
Injuries to key players, such as franchise quarterback Andrew Luck (lacerated kidney) and defensive lineman Arthur Jones (ankle), really hampered production on both sides of the ball while the rest of the team seemingly dealt with minor injuries of their own throughout the season. He was able to finish the game but the injury proved more serious on Monday.
The Colts now sit at 7-8, with five of those wins coming with Matt Hasselbeck starting. Hasselbeck, meanwhile, is doubtful for Sunday with a sprained right shoulder.
The Indianapolis Colts will play their regular season finale on Sunday against the Titans and, barring a miracle, it will be their final game of the season period. Pagano now has no chance with the Colts, but a chance to begin again with another team.
