Colts Sign T.Y. Hilton To $65 Million Extension
This kind of confidence and trust between a quarterback and receiver cannot be easily replicated, so it is important the Colts signed Hilton before he could have left elsewhere.
Colts Head Coach Chuck Pagano has known it from the first time he watched Hilton light up Louisville on the road as a senior.
The Indianapolis Colts locked up wide receiver TY Hilton with a long-term contract extension that is very similar to the Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas deals.
The first call was to his wife and kids.
Hilton and Luck came into the NFL in 2012.
Hilton’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, who was in town over the past few days, tweeted his determination to get a deal completed. While the contract, on the surface, averages $13 million over five years, it won’t cost the Colts $13 million against the cap each season. “I love being here”.
So what about his contract? Carter spent the last two seasons in the CFL.
“My wife started crying with all the stuff we’ve gone through this weekend. I’m going to continue to give it my all”.
The contract could actually turn out to be a bargain for the Colts, if Rosenhaus’ projection of a $17 million increase in next year’s salary cap is correct. Moncrief admitted though Hilton has certainly taken on more of a leadership role. Entering a contract year, it appeared as if the Colts had drafted a wide receiver in the first round as his potential replacement in case negotiations went sour, and Hilton stopped just short of being outwardly angry about his situation. The five-year, $65 million deal with $39 million guaranteed puts him in elite company. He has improved every season and has a knack for making the big play. It was clear both sides were motivated to get this done, going back to Owner and CEO Jim Irsay voicing his wishes to get an extension signed by Labor Day.
Brown and Hilton grew up together in Miami, facing off against each other and Hilton has also been compared to Brown (who is two years older).
