Colts stay in first place of AFC South with win
Fitzpatrick had a rough game in Sunday’s 24-17 loss to the Texans, throwing two interceptions in the game’s final minutes and looking out of sync with his receivers for the entire first half.
The Houston Texans spoiled Ryan Fitzpatrick’s return to Houston by defeating the NY Jets 24-17 to improve to 5-5; they remained tied with the Indianapolis Colts for first place in the AFC South. The Jets fell to 5-5, and now their road the postseason just got hard – almost impossible. Bullock added the extra point to tie the game at 10-10. The resulting 20-yard touchdown pushed the Houston lead to two scores.
“I think anybody would be disappointed when you don’t make a play… that was a heck of a play by that guy”, Watt said of Pryor. Houston rode two Deandre Hopkins touuchdowns and late second half interceptions by Eddie Pleasant and Andre Hal to a third consecutive win. Now, they sit at 5-4, in a dogfight for playoff position, and out of the playoffs if the season ended today.
“It’s very frustrating”, receiver Brandon Marshall said. “But … you have to pick yourself back up and fight. We don’t control our own destiny”.
“I’m extremely upset”, Todd Bowles said afterwards in his most emotional postgame remarks as the Jets’ first-year head coach. “Some people recover faster than others, so I’m just going to have to wait and see”. He has earned the trust and respect of coaches and teammates, but the fact remains he is not the answer. “I think Ryan made a few good throws. We’ll discuss everything we’re doing Monday like we always do”.
The NY Jets are sticking with Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback despite the team losing four of its last five games after a 4-1 start to the season.
Yates, subbing for injured starter Brian Hoyer (concussion), finished 16 for 34 for 229 yards. Bowles gave no indications whether Revis might be ready in time to play.
Fitzpatrick said he felt no ill effects from the game on his surgically repaired left thumb or from the hit he took when he ran for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Against the Jets, Hopkins became the third youngest player in National Football League history to reach 200 career receptions and 3000 career receiving yards. In their past three games, two of them losses, the Jets have thrown on 60% of the offensive snaps.
“When you make the play, you get to talk trash”, Watt said.
“This team is built to win, ” Kerley said. First of all, we have got to continue to do, for the most part, a good job on first and second down, so that we can get them in these longer yardage situations where maybe they have to hold the ball for an extra second.
Revis headed to the locker room with a head injury in the third quarter, so things aren’t looking great for the Jets’ defense. NY got a boost on that drive from a 44-yard pass interference penalty on Quintin Demps.
T.J. Yates took over when Hoyer was hurt against the Bengals and threw the game-winning touchdown in a 10-6 victory.
