Colts will fire Chuck Pagano, Ryan Grigson will stay for now
In what is expected to be his final Friday chat with reporters as the Indianapolis Colts’ head coach, Chuck Pagano insisted he’s strictly focused on Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Tennessee Titans.
Colts owner Jim Irsay says he has not made any decision about who will be in charge of his team next year.
Things have been so bad for the Colts this season that they lost practice squad quarterback Alex Tanney when the Titans (3-12) signed him to the active roster and receiver Griff Whalen, their No. 1 emergency quarterback, when he was put on injured reserve last week.
As for all the calculations being done to try and figure out Indianapolis’ playoff chances, Pagano isn’t going to concern himself with the math. The Colts won the last meeting at Lucas Oil Stadium 41-17 on September 28, 2014, as Luck threw for 393 yards and four touchdowns. They are playing for that playoff spot and the Colts would not have signed Lindley if he was not able to help them team.
Unfortunately for Chuck Pagano, there does not appear to be much that he can do to keep his job as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. It included a modest raise, one that clearly irritated Pagano considering he had directed the team to the playoffs with 11-5 records in each of his first three seasons and reached the AFC Championship game in January. I’m anxious about Tennessee.
The second season of Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has officially ended, and the coaching staff wants him to spend the off-season addressing his off-field issues.
Chuck Pagano likely won’t be back in Indy for the 2016 season.
The sports-movie vibe is enhanced by the very real possibility the Colts will be forced to use their fourth-choice quarterback, a guy plucked of the unemployed passer line. “We’ll find a way”, Pagano said.
On Thursday, we learned that there is a “toxic” relationship between coach Chuck Pagano and Grigson. You can blame general manager Ryan Grigson for that. Tennessee can lock up No. 1 overall draft pick by losing season finale….
Herrera has spent most of the season on the Colts’ practice squad.
“I’m am eternal optimist”, punter Pat McAfee said.
Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson described Kelly in those terms, summarizing how players felt about their coach the past three seasons with equal parts praise and criticism. Richardson missed the team walkthrough on the morning before the game without letting the team know he’d be absent, and when the Colts left for New England later that day, he wasn’t on the plane.
