Columbus Only Ohio City To Make Short List For Amazon 2nd HQ
Global e-commerce giant Amazon has released its list of the top 20 cities in the running for the company’s second North American headquarters.
“Yes, but realistically it was always a bit of a long shot and that’s why we made sure that the main benefit of this was not just Amazon but bidding on other opportunities as well”, said Savage.
Amazon has more than 540,000 employees worldwide.
In its request for bids for a second Amazon headquarters, the company cited several factors it considered important in its decision.
DE did not make the cut in Amazon’s quest for a second headquarters outside of its home base in Seattle.
Either way, the competition for Amazon’s “HQ2” is fun to watch. Los Angeles is the sole finalist on the West Coast, despite bids from major urban areas like San Diego, Portland, and San Francisco. But he added the city was open to other potential sites as well. With current housing and new developments in the pipeline, the Chicago area also can absorb an influx of thousands of new workers at a reasonable, although climbing, cost of living.
Amazon Motors invited everyone into their showroom to ogle the gleaming new Amazon mobile, and wouldn’t let anyone leave until they told both the company and their own family and friends: yes, we want the auto… badly.
The city offered Amazon $60 million in cash incentives.
He’s still encouraged, however, about two of the metropolitan areas that did make the cut. “We made a strong proposal for #AmazonHQ2”.
A City Hall scandal, a less-than-enthusiastic welcome from business leaders or sniping between local site developers trying to make the case for their own sites would signal dysfunction or a lack of discipline and spell big trouble for the offer.
“Amazon HQ2 will be a complete headquarters for Amazon – not a satellite office”, Amazon said in its late summer announcement. “We think this year is a 60 to 70 percent chance something gets announced between Amazon and Target, but longer term over the next three years it’s 90 percent and that reason is because Amazon needs Target to be a key player in offline retail in the USA, it’s a flawless partner for them”. So in addition to the tax breaks and other incentives, perhaps addressing some of those issues could be enticing to Amazon.
According to the bill, the headquarters project would be required to create at least 30,000 new full-time jobs and represent a capital investment of at least $3 billion.
Amazon reviewed 238 proposals from across the U.S., Canada and Mexico to host HQ2, the Seattle-based company’s second headquarters in North America.
Propositions from Baton Rouge and New Orleans were mingled among 238 proposals Amazon received from 43 USA states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, as well as three Mexican states and six Canadian provinces.
