Colyer: US should help Syrian refugees overseas, not bring them to America
Carson questioned, “Why create more problems?”
“They said the United States and other nations could be much more supportive of the Herculean efforts manifested by the Jordanians in – in taking in people at a lot of expense to themselves”, Carson said.
“There are 4 million refugees and when you go and you talk to them, they want to go home. It doesn’t even have to come from the federal government”.
She declined to comment specifically on Carson’s trip, but said, “To visit Jordan and to visit the camps and to think that that is the full picture is inaccurate”.
At least one of the men involved in the Paris attacks is believed to have traveled into Europe among the masses of refugees entering the continent to escape the violence in Syria.
“Canada has functioned at its best when it goes back to its very fundamental values that make this country special: and they are: inclusivity, they are equality of opportunity, they are caring for others, they are seeing diversity as a strength, not a weakness”. For us to sit there and proclaim sanctimoniously that ‘you should close your border, ‘ while we haven’t done that, to protect the American people, seems to me the height of hypocrisy. “That’s not going away anytime soon”. “We won’t need to take anything with us from here”. A lot of them hope to return to Syria one day, but some are unable to, and nobody wants to stay in the camps, she noted. They have clinics that are staffed and open 24/7. We are confident that those we help today will enrich our country in the future.
Jordan has launched a national census to provide greater clarity about a population that includes large numbers of Syrian refugees and foreign workers. He also argued that the US should work to facilitate a coalition government to bring an end to the conflict in Syria.
As part of the project, 20 refugees from the camp will be trained to operate and maintain the solar farm, providing them with employment and new skills. “The Jordanian Government expects the cost to care, educate, feed, and protect the refugees is about $3 billion per year – roughly the same amount of money we spend on Halloween candy in the USA each year”, he said.
“The individuals that we met are not a direct security threat, as far as I can tell”, Colyer said.
He said based on his observations, Syrian refugees are “satisfied” with refugee camps because these facilities already have basic amenities that can support their daily life.
In an interview with Breitbart News Radio, Carson suggested the USA has to keep Syrian refugees out of the country because the public will treat them so poorly they will become radicalized. He told of his experience with the Syrian refugees there. “Having said that, my suspicion is that these people are incredibly resilient and courageous folk who have managed to endure these circumstances and we will be impressed by their resilience”.
