Comedy Gold: Drunk athlete pays for taxi with World Championships medal
Hammered. He thinks. He can’t really recall.
.
On Sunday, Fajdek was victorious in the hammer throw at the 2015 World Athletics Championships in Beijing – his second world title.
In fairness, it was a hell of a one-night stand.
Officers successfully managed to find the taxi driver who had taken the 26-year-old home the previous night, but then heard how Fajdek had apparently given his gold medal away to pay for the journey.
The heavy-headed athlete woke up the following morning, Monday, and realised his memento had gone missing, according to Chinese media outlet Tencent.
After discovering its absence, the Pole called the police, who tracked down the gold medal to a taxi driver, who stated Fajdek had willingly handed it over after he could not afford the fare.
When the police got in touch with the driver he informed them that the athlete had paid for his trip home with his gold medal.

Polish journalists in Beijing to cover the event confirmed they had seen Fajdek at a restaurant and that he had “drunk a lot” during the evening.
