Comic-Con 2016: Pokemon Go Dev Confirms Trading, More Pokemon Are Coming
More Pokemon, trading, Pokemon Centers, and PokeStop customization are all being explored for Pokemon Go, Niantic’s John Hanke revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con Pokemon Go panel.
Pokemon Go is an augmented reality game released on both Android and iOS that brings real-world interaction into the Pokemon franchise.
Future plans for the game also include the Pokemon Go Plus, a Bluetooth-capable wearable gadget in the likeness of a pokeball, which will tell players when a Pokemon is nearby without them having to constantly be playing the game. Iconic Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto suggested that the games be split into two versions, each with its own set of Pokemon, to encourage trading between games.
Hanke has called the trading system a “core element” to the game.
What new features would you like to see come to Pokemon Go?
During a question-and-answer session with the audience, Hanke said the team was aware and fixing the glitches and bugs in the game and took fans’ suggestions on what to add, such as possible functions to breed Pokemon. Team Valor (best team) is led by Candela, Team Mystic has Blanche, and Team Instinct is headed-up by Spark.
The small team at Niantic Labs, founded internally at Google and spun into an independent entity previous year, has struggled to keep the game’s servers running as more users join, Hanke said, and their current priority was to prevent servers from crashing.
