Commercial fishermen haul in 800-pound, 13-foot tiger shark
Captain Joe Morris and Michael Huff were fishing about a mile off Folly Beach Saturday when they landed an 800-pound, 13 foot tiger shark.
The tiger shark that Mike Huff caught is 800-pounds and 13-foot long, according to the Post and Courier of Charleston. This isn’t a typical fish story either as the shark had to be gutted before pulling it in the boat as it was so large. The huge beast obviously was an older shark that roamed the waters only miles from the beach.
The insane thing is that this isn’t even Morris’ biggest catch ever.
Earlier this year, another massive tiger shark was tagged by researchers off Hilton Head and tracked by the non-profit group Ocearch. Per Fox Carolina, the fisherman said he has caught three sharks that each weighed more than 1,000 pounds.
While the presence of tiger sharks off the South Carolina coastline is enough to give beachgoers pause, Huff noted that the animals are no surprise to local fishermen.
