Committee to consider halting UW out of state student cap
How much more elite will UW-Madison become now that a cap on the number of nonresident students it can enroll has been lifted?
The report show the system’s four-year and two-year schools, UW-Extension and system administration finished the year that ended June 30 with about $923.9 million left over, including $337 million in tuition dollars.
Proponents point to a looming demand for workers amid demographic changes, a need articulated Friday by Regent S. Mark Tyler, a member of the governor’s Council on Workforce Development.
Providing access to in-state students is the school’s “top priority, UW-Madison spokesman John Lucas said in an email to The Associated Press”.
Adidas has been UW-Madison’s gear supplier since 2001. The lawsuit was settled short of trial in 2013.
Alvarez said he’s been impressed with what he called Under Armour’s creativity and technological advances in equipment and apparel.
The University of Wisconsin agreed to a 10-year deal with Under Armour on Friday worth a total of $96 million in cash and the retail value of products received.
Flanked at the podium by Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank and Senior Associate Athletic Director Justin Doherty, Alvarez said he had followed Under Armour a long time, calling it a “modern success story”. Blank said the company doesn’t have any plans for any “wild” uniforms, noting that UW-Madison’s teams have always tended toward more traditional apparel rather than “flash and pop”. “Our primary focus at Wisconsin is, of course, our student-athletes, and Under Armour’s passion and commitment to high quality and innovation will benefit our student-athletes for years to come”.
“It’s a great contract for both sides”, UW Chancellor Rebecca Blank said to The Badger Herald, adding that her daughter loves to wear Under Armour products.
“I wish I did this deal eight years ago”, Plank said.
