Commuters face evening train delays after trespasser reported at Surbiton
“At this moment all trains in the Surbiton area are still running, but are having to go at a reduced speed”.
The incident happened near to Surbiton this morning.
Tim Shoveller, managing director at South West Trains, said: “It was useful to meet London TravelWatch and discuss the challenges we face in running one of Europe’s busiest railways as well as the steps we have already taken to prepare Waterloo for redevelopment”.
“Their closure led to significant disruption for both long-distance and suburban services”.
The disruption was compounded by a signalling failure at Surbiton at 4.30pm and a fault on the 2.57pm service from Poole to Waterloo.
The incident is causing travel delays for passengers on the London Waterloo line, which includes Weymouth.
The multi-million pound upgrade sponsored by Network Rail and South West Trains will bring platforms in the former Waterloo worldwide Terminal back into use.
Mr Neill said: “Many train crews were unable to reach their trains to begin or continue working, and the carriages for a few evening peak departures were delayed coming into Waterloo and therefore delayed departing Waterloo”.
Trains between that run between Waterloo and Haslemere (stopping services) that start or terminate at Haslemere will run between Guildford and Haslemere only in both directions.
Photographs from passengers whose journeys have been disrupted have been flooding in.
British Transport Police have confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious.
