‘Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre’ is set for release Friday
The album cover for “Compton“, Dr. Dre’s first album in 16 years.
In Dre’s weekly show The Pharmacy With Dr. Dre, which aired Saturday afternoon on Beats 1 radio, Dre got real with friends Ice Cube and Straight Outta Compton director F.
“I’m really proud of this”, he said in a Newsweek report. Expect Apple to feature the album prominently in the runup to release.
Compton: The Soundtrack is set to be released August 7 via Apple Music.
And I will say right now that’s it going to a big hit at the box office. I mean seriously, I worked my ass off on it, but I didn’t think I did a good enough job.
Straight Outta Compton is a film that details his rise in the music industry along with members of one of the genre’s biggest groups. “That’s the feeling I got watching him work, knowing that he was in great hands”. The album can be preordered on iTunes now ready for release on August 7th.
Fans can expect to hear Ice Cube, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem on the soundtrack, as well as a few unannounced guests.
And maybe fans should despair, at least a little: Dre tweeted that “Compton” will be his “grand finale”.
“It’s definitely a dope record, and he’s dropping it all on the same day”.
Dre, who is played in the movie by Corey Hawkins, also served as a producer for the big-screen adaptation of the California performers’ recording career. It has the market all by itself for several weeks, so a $40 million opening weekend sounds pretty fair to me.

Dre recently announced that Apple Music would be the first service to stream the rapper’s landmark solo debut, The Chronic.
