Computer Passport Glitch Causes Delays at LAX and Major Airports Nationwide
A federal law enforcement source told CBS News Correspondent Jeff Pegues the problems cropped up with a computer system that is used to check names of passengers boarding aircraft against the terror watch list.
Officials confirmed at 8:22 p.m. EDT that the system was experiencing problems, NBC News reported.
Delays and long lines are being reported at J.F.K. global Airport in New York, Hartsfield-Jackson worldwide Airport in Atlanta, Logan global Airport in Boston and other major facilities. It was all backed up. “The people working said it’s never happened before and no one can understand it”. “Somehow I made my flight!”
Electronic kiosks where passengers can fill out self-service declaration forms were down, and there were noticeably more staff at customs counters – “looks like they paged a bunch of people to come in”, passenger Jeremy Hitchcock said.
The FAA, the New York Port Authority, and U.S. Customs & Border Protection Agency did not immediately respond to requests for comment; the New York Port Authority declined to comment.
