Confederate flag protestors show up at Lenoir County Courthouse

“I don’t believe it represents racism because I’m not racist”. They brought their own flags to fly in the parking lot outside the building. However, the expanse of companies who apologized and re-evaluated their inclusion of the Confederate flag does not include Six Flags Over Texas, a national amusement park. And I put that flag on the cover of my first book because, for good or for ill, that flag will forever have a place in the souls of black folk in the South.

As many as 1,200 people were expected to attend the reunion, which was awarded to the Richmond delegation more than a year before Dylann Roof gunned down nine members of the historic Emanuel AME Church in Charleston.

The County Commission needs to listen to those who show up today to speak on the flag debate then come to a thoughtful, sensible solution regarding this divisive symbol.
