Confirmed: Denmark v France line-ups – Christian Eriksen and Anthony Martial start
Olivier Giroud scores twice in as many minutes as France neat Denmark in an global friendly in Copenhagen. Giroud collected Anthony Martial’s accurate through ball before sliding his shot beneath Kasper Schmeichel, who will feel he should have done better.
Just two minutes later and the Arsenal striker had his second of the evening after a quick counter-attack.
Stunned by the early double blow, Denmark took their time to regroup and not until Nicklas Bendtner sent a curling shot into the arms of Steve Mandanda just before the half-hour mark did the Morten Olsen’s side muster any threat of note.
Giroud’s brace sealed France’s fourth consecutive win.
France do not need to worry about qualifying for next summer’s European Championships as the host nation of the tournament and are therefore able to use the global breaks to experiment with the squad.
Both sides made changes at the start of the second, as Kurt Zouma was introduced by France, while Denmark brought on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The beleaguered Danes could have fallen three behind with just half an hour played, as France captain Raphael Varane headed Antoine Griezmann’s cross agonisingly wide.
The Danish ‘keeper then thwarted Giroud in a carbon-copy situation before Poulsen came close to reducing the deficit.
Giroud wasted a golden chance to complete his hat-trick in the 66th minute when, through one-on-one, he elected to try to chip Schmeichel only to put his shot straight at the Leicester goalkeeper.
Denmark pulled one back in stoppage time, with Sviatchenko smashing an outstanding effort into the top-left corner from 30 yards, but it was too little too late as France cruised to an easy win.
