Confirmed: Leeds United sign Ross Turnbull on two year deal
Leeds United have created competition for Marco Silvestri by signing former Chelsea goalkeeper Ross Turnbull.
Turnbull spent last season in League One with Barnsley but having been offered the opportunity of Championship football, it seems he couldn’t turn it down.
A brief statement from the club wished him the best for his future.
The former England youth worldwide has become United’s sixth summer addition and arrives on a free transfer.
Uwe Rosler’s side has been in the market for another ‘keeper to challenge Marco Silvestri for the club’s no. 1 spot and have been linked with a move for Turnbull all summer.
Leeds were effectively without cover for Silvestri after releasing Stuart Taylor at the end of the 2014-15 season. But if should he put up some impressive performances, he may be given the chance to start ahead of the Italian.
Leeds have also signed Charlie Horton, Lee Erwin, Sol Bamba and Chris Wood. He has talked up the Italian’s progress throughout the year, and kept his faith in Silvestri as the club’s main goalkeeper.
He moved to Barnsley permanently last summer and made 22 appearances for the Tykes last term.
He began his career at Middlesborough, and had spells with Darlington, Bradford, Crewe, Cardiff and Chelsea before joining Doncaster in 2013.
Following their draw at York, Leeds face Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday.
