Confirmed: Liverpool target Alex Teixeira seals transfer to China, Shakhtar boss reveals
Liverpool target Alex Teixeira is seemingly wanted by Chinese side Jiangsu Suning, with a €50 million bid being considered by the player.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Teixeira will join Jiangsu Suning for a staggering transfer fee of 35 million pounds.
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp had earlier explained why his side opted against signing the Brazilian, who has scored 22 goals already this season.
The Shakhtar Donetsk star is set to join the club for £38.4million and will be the biggest move in 2016 thus far.
If the deal with Teixeira will push through, it will again set a new record for the richest transfer in the history of China football.
Teixeira, whose asking price Liverpool refused to meet despite the player’s well-publicised desire to move to Anfield, is expected to become China’s most expensive footballing import – in the same week that Jackson Martinez did likewise upon signing for Guangzhou Evergrande.
Liverpool did launched a bid of around £24m for him but that was deemed not enough by Shakhtar.
He said: “It’s true, we have sold to China”.
They were planning to come back in the summer with the English transfer window having closed on Monday night but Jiangsu have beat them to it. The Chinese window does not close until February 26.
Ultimately, Teixeira’s decision to snub Liverpool will likely end up as one of the year’s strangest transfer decisions.
