Conflicting reports over Van Gaal’s offer to resign at Man Utd

The United manager is expected to hold talks with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward on Tuesday, just three days before United’s FA Cup fourth round tie at Derby. The Portuguese remains keen to manage United.

Jose Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes has responded to the claims that the Portuguese manager wrote a six-page letter to Manchester United regarding the manager’s job.

During the press conference Van Gaal was approached by a journalist who put forward a rather innocent question asking him about the authenticity of the rumours doing the rounds that United are to hire Ashley Cole on loan from Roma.

He added: “I agree with them, so it doesn t have any impact (on me)”.

The United fans revolted following the Southampton defeat and Van Gaal agreed with their booing.

“We are working very hard, but we have had a lot of injuries: that you can not change”. It looks like his rib and his chest, but we have to wait and see as I can not say.

Gill was also critical of the playing style.

“I think the 20 Premier League teams will probably be in the top 30 revenue earners in European football so it gives every team a real ability to attract top players”. You have to have the players to do that. “Clearly we all hoped the results would be better and everyone is disappointed with that… undoubtedly its been a season of under-achievement, ” said Gill, who is a Federation Internationale de Football Association vice president.

There was no objection from Van Gaal to the jeering that came his way as he trudged down the touchline with clipboard in hand. “It’s not for me – I’m not the spokesperson for Man Utd. I never read that”, he said with a huff. “I’m not privy to the conversations”. We all want that.

“Nevertheless, we have won three times in 2016 and had a draw, so there were very good results in January”.

But he was unable to offer any explanation as to why United are so poor.

“The only corner we are turning is into some dark alley where we get robbed again”.
