Confusion amid reports of jackpot Powerball
A Tennessee couple has claimed they have one of the three winning tickets for the record $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot.
Lisa and John Robinson of Munford, Tennessee, appeared at a press conference at the Tennessee Lottery’s offices with their adult daughter Tiffany and black and white dog Abby and said they would take their $528.8 million share in an immediate cash payment instead of annual payments over 29 years.
John Robinson said he purchased the winning ticket in Munford Wednesday night at Naifeh’s Food Market, The Today Show reported.
“I think the American public wants to hear from them”, Townsend says.
“I didn’t know exactly what do to, ” John said.
Robinson said he bought four quick-pick tickets, one for each family member, and went to lie down when he got home.
Robinson said she does plan to return to work and they do not plan to move. “We didn’t get any sleep”.
No one has stepped forward yet to claim the third winning ticket, sold at a Publix grocery store in Melbourne Beach, Florida.
The winning ticket was confirmed by Tennessee lottery officials Friday afternoon. He spoke with the family Friday morning as they were in New York City, but he recalled the moments prior to hearing the big news. No one has claimed that prize yet, said Michigan Lottery spokesman Jeff Holyfield. In a phone call to her boss, Lisa said she would appear for work on Monday.
According to Florida Lottery Secretary Tom Delacenserie, transactions for this jackpot produced almost $115 million since November for education in Florida, which uses the lottery to fund 6 percent of the education budget. The chances of winning were 1 in 292.2 million, and there were 635,103,137 total tickets sold.
A Tennessee couple who says they won a share of the $1.6B Powerball has arrived at lottery headquarters to have their ticket checked.
“We were up all night”, Lisa said. On Thursday morning, surveillance cameras captured the head of the Tennessee Lottery walking in with the billion dollar news and a $25,000 bonus for the store, which is named Naifeh’s. The state’s beneficiaries earned about $20 million; the state’s General Fund will receive $11 million while $9 million will go toward environment funds. In a symbolic gesture, Lupe rummaged through an old bag of tickets in the garage so that her grandson could bet the same “lucky numbers”.
